There are numerous initiatives for funding research and social programs throughout Europe on the National and Regional level. The programmes exist throughout the European Union as well as a number of outlying countries and have proven highly beneficial to many individuals and organizations not directly supported by EU Framework programmes.

Over the coming months SKILLS OnLINE will attempt to create a comprehensive overview of a number of these National and regional efforts, listing them by country and giving as much pertinent information as possible. FFG

The Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) is the national funding institution for applied industrial research in Austria. FFG offers a comprehensive range of services for Austrian enterprises, research institutions and researchers – from the management of public funding programs  to consulting services in all phases of technology development and innovation, from support for integration into European research programs and networks to the promotion of Austria’s interests at the European and the international level.

European and International Programs

FFG is the official Austrian center for expertise and service in international R&D activities. The services offered range from advice and coaching in project specification and facilitating contacts with cooperation partners through to support in technology transfer.

SKILLS INTERNATIONAL is listed among the Austrian FP7 Commercial Consultants to support clients in writing and project management for FP7 proposals and projects.

We are also members of the regional initiative in Southern Austria called Foerderpool (translated: funding pool), where Austrian FP7 Commercial Consultants from the region of Styria join forces to support in the different phases of a project.

Kosovo

Based on the Umbrella Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNMIK – The United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo on behalf and for the benefit of The Provisional Institutions of Self-Government in Kosovo (Ministry of Education, Science and Technology) and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria and the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, this multidimensional project features the main elements for the implementation of an institutionalized partnership between Austria and Kosovo in the field of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.

Objectives of the project

• To reform and stabilize the public higher Education System in Kosovo
• To follow the principles of Bologna Process
• Introduce European Values and Standards
• Integration of Kosovo’s Universities into the European Education Network
• To initiate Interaction between Universities and the local Economy

Croatia

The Tempus project CROmEU

The CROmEU project is an international project co-founded within TEMPUS Program. The main aim of the project is to improve the knowledge and capabilities for cooperation of researchers, universities and other institutions from Croatia in European projects.

Project Basics Duration: 1.9.2006 –31.8.2009

Budget: 344.602,00 €

TEMPUS donation: 327.352,00

Project background Certification scheme for different jobs, required directly from the market, is being established in Europe , under the Leonardo da Vinci program. The scheme is called EQN (European Qualification Network). For each job within the scheme pertaining training scheme is established and also the examination and certification procedure is defined and established. Among others also the "Certified European Project Manager" is being very attractive and important at present time. To gain the certificate, the attendance at the seminar or workshop is required as well as passing the exam. Project Objectives Objective 1 Improvement of the qualification of teaching and administrative staff of University of Rijeka in the area of “Management of EU projects”. At least 30 people will participate at the trainings and approximately 20 of them will become Certified EU Project Manager. At least 5 people will be trained for trainers for Certified EU Project Manager. Objective 2 Establishment of a knowledge transfer center for management of european projects at University of Rijeka, for further help for preparation of administrative structure in Croatia for cooperation in EU community programmes. Knowledge transfer center will be formed within existing organization of university or as new organizational body. Knowledge center will train at least 75 participants (and approximately 50 of them will become Certified EU Project Manager). Objective 3 Definition of a unique trial course (consistent with Bologna declaration) for the topic "Management of EU projects" at University of Rijeka, and University of Maribor, which could be introduced as a subject in the curricula. Objective 4 Improvement of the cooperation among teaching and administrative staff of University of Rijeka, University of Maribor and other consortium members.
